According to the article, the average person drives approx. 15 miles to work one way. So, if you are driving to work and back, you would drive approx. 30 miles. The average work week is 5 days long so 5x30 is 150 miles. You would drive 150 miles per week to work and back. The average person drives way more than to work and back, though. From the last assignment, I found out that my car got 56 mpg and the local gas price was $3.23. Using the equation 350/56x3.23=T(total cost) then I would spend around $20.19 on one week of driving... not a bad deal! Now I am starting to see the benefits of having a hybrid car, especially a SMART car!
*BONUS*
Since most months have 4 weeks, you could do the equation 350x4/mpgxP=T to get how much gas would cost in a month. Plugging in all the numbers, i found out that I would spend $80.75 a month on gas. To find out how much gas would cost per year, you do the equation 350x52/mpgxP=T. I would spend $1,049.75 on gas per year.
